When you think of a really great foodie experience, what are the factors that are important to you? I think I can speak for most foodies and say we look for fresh ingredients, cooking from not only scratch but from the heart, a clean and inviting decor and last but certainly not least we want wonderful customer service.
To most of us this may seem like a no brainer, and should be so easy to find. But as many of us have come to find out through our own personal experiences, this is no easy task to pull off at the end of the day. So when we foodies get the chance to come across an establishment that can meet that criteria, we have to shout at the top of our lungs to let everyone else know.
And I have come across yet another of those wonderful little gems in Gentry, Arkansas. This is a fairly new restaurant having opened the end of November 2010, but I have had several of my viewers mention them to me over the past couple of months. And was invited by the owner to come over and try them out and see for myself what they are about.
If I were to guess, I would say that they can seat about 100 people, It is actually a nice cozy feel overall, and while being so cozy, it is not cramped by any means.
While the table clothes, chairs, ceiling tiles and some accents are straight black, there is quite a bit of vibrancy to be found in the interior.
The interior as well as the bathrooms were clean, and well maintained. They did well on their build out. They also have a "sports room" in the back.
If you are in the mood for a wonderful seafood "soup", you need to ask for their crab soup.
Yes, this is a crab bisque, but they renamed it to a soup to help some of the folks that weren't quite sure about what this dish was.
And let me tell you, it is well worth trying. Real crab, nothing imitation here. Made from scratch goodness!
Next I had one of their house salads, now in regards to the ingredients, it was straight forward and fresh,
The real winner here is their house dressing which they make from scratch. This was yummy, and if we are real lucky they may start bottling and selling this green goodness!
From their appetizer section I tried a mazza stick. And as you can tell from this photo, these aren't your ordinary mazza sticks.
These are HUGE! And great tasting, the batter was cooked just right. Talk about ooooey, gooooey goodness!
The marinara sauce was also spot on, well seasoned.
From their entrees, I tried a seafood au gratin. This contains shrimp and crawfish in white cream sauce over fried eggplant medallions, topped with bacon bits and melted cheese.
I had a "loaded" baked potato with this dish.
Overall this was good, my only peeve about this one was way too much melted cheese, but all in all this was a good dish. I loved the fried eggplant.
And off of their dessert section, I decided to try some of their bread pudding.
Bread pudding is one of those items, that when done well, will send you into foodie nirvana.
And let me tell you, this one was done right! A definite must try!
Sitting down and talking to Jill McQuiston (the owner) verified for me the level of commitment that she has to this restaurant, and her patrons. She has the desire to excel and provide top notch food and service to her customers, and I firmly believe they will continue to improve and move forward day in and day out. When she talks about how important consistency is in her dishes, you can see it in her eyes and hear it in her voice just how much she cares for her customers.
They have already taken steps to help out the local community. They recently let the Little Gentry Cheerleaders come in and serve, and they were able to keep all the tips. The turn out was great, and they even made $500 in tips. When any business takes part in their community, that speaks volumes in regards to their commitment to their community.
And this is very much a family operated business, with one of the family members having a very solid knowledge of the food industry. And all of them have a common goal, which is to bring you the best food at a great price. So whether it is her, her mother or her brother that is expediting the food, they all have the same goal of sending out nothing but the best.
The value is there, as the portion sizes are good and the quality of product is very good as well.
So in summary I would strongly suggest this restaurant to my viewers. Fleur de Lis Grill hits the mark, and provides us foodies with what we want, which is great food at a great price, with great service. Located in Gentry, it is only a 10 minute drive up Hwy 59 from Siloam Springs. So it is very well worth the drive, even if you are coming from the Springdale area. And they have a lot of plans for the future, some fun stuff such as crawfish boils etc...
