About NowThatsCookin.Com
NowThatsCookin.Com was purchased on March of 2010 by Frank Elder. It was not until around September of 2010 that Frank really started serious development of the site itself. From the inception of the web site to today, it has grown at a phenomenal rate.
A little about Frank Elder. Frank considers himself an avid "foodie". And fortunate to be a resident of beautiful Northwest Arkansas. He has worked on and developed several web sites over the past decade or so, always considering himself a novice in regards to web design and development, he has strived to push his "limits" in these areas as with most in his life.
The site itself was started initially as no more than just a "project", as something to just "do". Frank knew he wanted to do another web site project, but was not sure what he wanted to do. So he asked himself "what do I love"? And the choice soon became very obvious. Knowing that he loved to cook almost as much as he loved to eat and try new food things, he started doing some research. And what he found is that there were plenty of foodie blogs for the area and other resources for foodie's, but there didn't seem to be a robust foodie web site, that offered local foodie's the ability to interact on many different levels.
NowThatsCookin.Com has gone through three iterations of development, with the most recent being a complete rework of the site. The goal of the most recent rework was to clean up the site, making it more presentable to viewers. We also wanted to clean up the navigation and make it easier to find the content that matters to them. In addition, we wanted to add and stream line certain user functionality. A good example of this are the forums, they are now fully integrated in the site. And user sign up to the site is now stream lined and very easy to do.
The goal of the site from the offset was to offer the foodie community a vibrant web site that gives them an area to "come together" and share information, reviews etc... In addition, we wanted to help promote so many of these wonderful "mom and pop" shops that are in Northwest Arkansas. Small business owners have such a tough time competing with the big guys, and we fully agree with the idea of buying local and supporting our local small business owners.
We have, and will continue to promote local charitable events that have a food tie-in, at no charge to the events. This is just part of how we try to give back to the community and our way of helping to acknowledge those local businesses that help local charities. So we do what we can to help spread the word, not only on our web site but also with our social media pages as well.
In addition we have recently added sections to the web site that assist Northwest Arkansas residents with finding jobs, and even help with them locating help resources such as local food pantries. The jobs section of the site is available to the general public and can be viewed even if they are not "registered users" of the site. And, we allow employers to put up ads on their own at no charge. We hope that this particular resource will help bring together companies and prospective employees. The food pantry list section of the site is also available to general viewers of the site, no user account is required to view that portion of the site either.
NowThatsCookin.Com has many plans for the future, with even more added functionality and robust content. In addition, we see the replicability of this site to other regions and do have plans for a "geographic" expansion of our services. But as with all things in life, we have to work within the resources we have available.
